McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act- Students Experiencing Homelessness
Woodland Park Academy is dedicated to supporting children and youth experiencing homelessness by ensuring their educational rights and protections under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The Mckinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act guarantees educational rights and supports for students experiencing homelessness and seeks to remove barriers these students may face in succeeding in school.
The McKinney-Vento Assistance Act ensures that children experiencing homelessness must have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to other children and youths. Schools are to ensure continuity in a child’s or youth’s education in the school of origin for the duration of the homelessness and for the remainder of the academic year. School stability provisions require immediate enrollment of homeless children and youth upon request of enrollment, and removes any barriers regarding documentation to enroll in school of choice or origin.

Students experiencing homelessness may qualify for resources through the school including help with uniforms, transportation costs, and school supplies. If you have questions regarding the rights and protections of students experiencing homeless, please contact our McKinney-Vento Liaison:
